3.1 Learning Resources

Goals For This Week

  • To explore systems for student self-pacing
  • To understand the difference between public and private pacing trackers
  • To apply self-pacing structures in our own school context

Lesson Classification

Break down your curriculum into Must Do, Should Do, and Aspire To Do categories. You can do this within a block of learning (for example, over a unit) OR you can do this within EACH lesson.

This model gives you the flexibility to decide what will work best for your subject area, grade level, and learners.

Pacing Trackers

There are two options for progress trackers:

  1. Public: Display student progress to foster authentic and efficient collaboration.
  2. Individual: Help students track their own pace.

Decide what type of tracker you will use for your class – we’ve included some examples here for inspiration and there are lots of great templates that you can grab from the Modern Classrooms FREE course. Keep in mind that you can also choose a mix of both public and individual trackers if that works for you!

Above all else, remember these key ideas when setting up your trackers:

  • Show clearly what students should do.
  • Display progress, not grades.
  • Update regularly.
  • Celebrate effort and growth!
