Educational Assistance – West Oak Public School

What do you love most about your job?

Just about everything. The students I am blessed to work with teach me something new every day. There is no such thing as an ordinary day.

As a parent of exceptional children myself, I am passionate about inclusion and the opportunity to educate others.

To cap it off, I spend my days with an amazing group of educators who share my resolve & dedication to the students in our class.

We do real.

We do emotion, hard work, and caring.

Mostly we do fun and laughter. Even on the tough days.

Sometimes even through the tears.

What is a challenge you face?

The continuing cuts to special education. Our most vulnerable students need a louder voice.

What is a recent tiny victory, quick win that you would like to celebrate today?

Sometimes it is as simple as making it through to the weekend. 😃 But I celebrate each and every one of the micro-victories that made that possible.

What is your favourite quote?

“Inclusion is not tolerance. It is unquestioned acceptance.”

Have you ever had a secret admirer? Would you want one?

I have been married for 20 years now so I have to go a loooong way back into the memory banks for this one. I once had someone send me a ridiculous bouquet of 80 roses. It was a lovely gesture (although not really my love language) but it made for a very uncomfortable and embarrassing journey back to my apartment on a packed rush hour tube on the London Underground. Even more awkward was thanking my boyfriend for the flowers to find they weren’t from him.

Who are your favourite writers?

I am one of those people who always has a couple of books on the go and I pick up whichever one suits my mood in the moment. Audible has opened a whole other world for me as reading time is a rare commodity and now I can read while I run or walk and still have time for everything else. My favourite author list is long and diverse and covers most genres.

Current top 3:
Gabor Mate
Lisa See
Alexander McCall Smith
