Grade 6 Teacher

What do you love most about your job?

I love so many things about my job! I love the people I work with and interacting with hilarious, bright, and inspiring people each day. I also love working with the students. I love encouraging them to try something new or consider something from another persepctive. Most of all I enjoy the “aha” moment when a student goes from frustrated about a topic, to understanding and feeling confident about the topic.

What is a challenge you face?

A challenge I face is finding balance. I’ve been working harder this year at finding balance and seperating my home time and my school time. It’s tough to find that balance and not bring a lot of the work home, but I have been working harder at enjoying my time at home to recharge for the next day.

What is a tiny victory or quick win you’d like to celebrate?

I was really happy to recieve an “inspire” award a few years back during the online period. I was online for a year during 2020-2021 and the group of grade 7 students I had were really special. We created a beautiful classroom community where student leadership was encouraged. They surprised me by nominating me for an inspire award and it made me so happy. It was a huge highlight in my teaching career.

A more recent victory would be helping a student come out of their shell more in the classroom. I have watched this student grow from a shy student who was uncomfortable making friends, to a student with many friends in the classroom who participates often everyday and joins clubs. The student participated in our “friendship club” in our classroom that we held during breaks and established new friendships within the classroom, becoming more confident and sure of themselves over the course of the year. It makes me extremely happy to know that they are more comfortable in the classroom and confident in themselves.

What words of love & encouragement would you like to share with your fellow Humans?

My favourite quote that I say to the students often is, “In a World where you can be anything be kind!”

What is something others may not know about you?

I really love to run! I enjoy going for long distance runs with my sister. I also love to go for trail runs along the beautiful trails in Halton. It is absolutely my passion. I also enjoy baking, reading, and biking with my Dad.
