“Miss Nicola” – Classroom Teacher – Oakwood Public School
What do you love most about your job?
The relationships I have with my students and seeing the impact the relationship can have. I love watching them grow academically, socially and emotionally. I love being an adult that they can trust and confide in. I love the process of building relationships with students – from reluctant learners to inquiry filled explorers. I LOVE spending time with my students – outside walks, tinker time in the classroom, class community breakfasts. It is during these times that we really are a classroom family
What is a challenge you face?
Watching my students move on. Yes it is inevitable but it is hard sometimes! We spend everyday with these kiddos for a year and build such precious relationships that when students move on (end of year, move schools, etc) it tugs at my heart!
What is a quick win, or tiny victory you’d like to celebrate?
Feeling confident in my mentorship with my Teacher Candidate – a very intrapersonal victory but an important one for me in my own professional development.
Aside from the bare necessities, what is one thing you could not go without, and why?
A tea! Not only does it give me a small boost but it also warms me up – literally and metaphorically!
How would your friends describe you?
My friends would describe me as positive, energetic and loud! I am seldom quiet when around them. I love my people!
What words of love/encouragement do you have for your fellow Humans of HDSB?
You are doing amazing things, I am sure of it!
